Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Early Childhood Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This person will be working with students ages 3 and 4.

Essential Functions

  • Develops curriculum, prepares materials and classrooms for class activities
  • Consistently planning innovative ways of keeping children actively engaged
  • Imparting knowledge to children through fun and play
  • Provides activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children
  • Writes and compiles individual assessments of each child's development; completes daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports
  • Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning
  • Sponsors a student club and/or coaches an athletic team
  • Meets with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs
  • Provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play
  • Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of Lower School programs
  • Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
  • Regularly attends faculty meetings
  • Communicates with families regularly via Class Dojo and weekly newsletters, and as needed to promote the growth of each child
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood and Lower School Division Head


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or post graduate work in subject matter and/or education
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience at the grade of age level preferred, ideally in an independent school environment
  • Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.
  • Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
  • Ability to exercise patience when interacting with children.
  • Embraces implementing a multicultural classroom and a social emotional curriculum
  • A strong passion for teaching and commitment to student learning and development
  • Excellence in classroom management techniques
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff members
  • Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom
  • Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning
  • Enthusiasm for professional development
  • Comfortable using online texts, iPads, Learning Management System, and computer systems
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh operating systems
  • Experience with G-Suite (Google Apps) for Education (preferred)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Commitment to inclusion and issues of social justice and equity
  • Ability to use basic office equipment
