Innovation Coach/STEAM Teacher (Temp. Nov. '23-March '24)
Roycemore School seeks an Innovation Coach and STEAM Teacher to cover a leave of absence. The leave will be from about November 2023 through March 2024. Founded in 1915, Roycemore is a highly regarded, co-educational independent school for students from 3 years old through 12th grade. Position
We are currently seeking an experienced Innovation Coach and STEAM Teacher for a leave of absence. The person in this position will:
- work with faculty and students school-wide to advance innovation and STEAM
- manage maker equipment, spaces, and curriculum
- supervise students while using maker equipment and spaces
- working with administration, plan future maker and innovation initiatives
- teach technology/maker classes, including Middle School
- teach Upper School Design Essentials
The Innovation Coach and STEAM Teacher plays a vital role in the school’s Innovation Center, a space for students of all ages to authentically engage in a classroom topic through an authentic, hands-on approach. This Center is undergoing Phase I of construction, which is expected to be completed in October. The Innovation Coach and STEAM Teacher will teach classes in the new Center, and will help in advancing its use.
In addition to overseeing the Innovation Center, the Innovation Coach will teach several classes, including Design Essentials, a design thinking focused course, as well as weekly Middle School Maker courses. The Innovation Coach will also partner with classroom teachers to innovate and complete projects using the equipment in the Innovation Center, and will conduct professional development in this area.
Essential Functions
- Designs and teaches STEAM classes school-wide
- Develops curriculum, scope and sequence, and integration of STEAM and innovation into core subjects
- Manages the use of maker equipment, including 3D printers, laser engravers, woodworking equipment, and other items
- Contributes to decision-making related to new maker equipment and spaces
- Develops enthusiasm for making among faculty and students through professional development, training, co-teaching, developing resources, and other creative means
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and students to promote making and use maker equipment
- Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records
- Evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, and papers
- Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning
- May sponsor a student club and/or coaches an athletic team
- Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development and professional learning network
- Performs other duties as assigned by administration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in subject area required; a Master’s degree preferred
- A minimum of three years teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment
- Experience teaching STEM courses, computer programming, and/or maker/innovation skills
- Enthusiasm for making, problem-solving, and innovation in a school setting
- Excellence in classroom management techniques
- Enthusiasm for professional development
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to interface and communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff members
- Experience with Google Workspace for Education (preferred)
- Strong passion for teaching & commitment to student learning & development
- Committed to curriculum design and growth
- Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom
- Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning
- Comfortable using online texts, iPads, student information system, and other computer systems
- Able to use basic office equipment
