College Counselor and Instructor

Roycemore School seeks a College Counselor and Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Roycemore is a highly regarded, coeducational independent school for students from 3 years old through 12th grade. Essential Functions

  • Leads College Counseling Office in developing 21st Century College Counseling environment for students, parents, and school 
  • Counsels students and their parents, individually and in groups, regarding college selection, application/ financial aid process and admission procedures
  • Advise, guide and write for members of the senior class
  • Teach students to write effective college essays and advise teachers about writing recommendations
  • Oversees and coordinates the standardized testing calendar, arranges for review sessions, testing dates; provides pre and post-test counseling
  • Coordinates accurate records of student testing and academic work with the Systems & Operations Coordinator
  • Oversees the timely completion of faculty recommendations and reports for college applicants
  • Develops reports for the Head of School, key administrators and Board of Trustees regarding student progress and college placement statistics
  • Oversees visits to and from college representatives
  • Maintains an informative and up-to-date college guidance center on campus
  • Establishes relationships with college admission staffs organizes in house visits by college reps, and maintains communication with and knowledge of appropriate colleges
  • Adopts and implements the most up-to-date college guidance technology, including the use of Common Application, College Board etc.
  • Teaches an Upper School course when qualifications match need.
  • Prepares course materials such as syllabi,  homework assignments, and handouts
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s varying needs and interests
  • Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records
  • Evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, and papers
  • Compiles, administers, and grades examinations
  • Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction
  • Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods
  • Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning
  • Serves as an adviser to students, guiding them in academic, extracurricular, social and personal development and acting as primary liaison to parents/ guardians
  • Meets with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs
  • Collaborates with other teachers and administrators 
  • Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
  • Regularly attends faculty meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate work in subject matter and/or counseling.  A Master's degree is preferred
  • A minimum of three years of administration experience in independent school college counseling.  Experience in college admissions preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
  • Experience with international students attending US universities
  • A strong passion for teaching and commitment to student learning and development
  • Excellence in classroom management techniques
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff members
  • Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom
  • Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning
  • Enthusiasm for professional development
  • Comfortable using online texts, iPads, Learning Management System, and computer systems
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh operating systems
  • Experience with G-Suite (Google Apps) for Education (preferred)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Commitment to inclusion and issues of social justice and equity
  • Ability to use basic office equipment
