Music History

This course explores how the music we listen to today came into being. Studying the periods of development in Western music. Forms, instrumentation, and historical context will be covered as wee explore the music of the Middle Ages through contemporary composers.


Introduction to Music Theory
This course is a study in the theoretical aspects of music. Such elements as scales, chords, and notation are covered. Writing style, form and composition is emphasized. No prior knowledge of reading music is reacquired. If you enjoy music and want to know how it was created, you will find this course interesting. If you feel that you may be interested in pursing music in college this course will greatly help you.

Advanced Music Theory
This class requires completion of Introduction to music theory.
This is a demanding course that explains music theory at a high level. AP college-level content is given to students when appropriate time comes. Students will learn composition skills, analytical skills, aural skills and enhance their performance skills in the class. Students will be composing both by hand and by computer using Finale Software. If you feel that you may be interested in pursing music in college this course will be beneficial to you.

Choir
Choir is offered as a P.E./Activity credit during the second half of P.E. throughout the year. The class is a pass/fail course and attendance and positive participation is required. The ability to read notes and music is not required, but if you do read music please let the instructor know. All students receive a small group of voice lessons for personal improvement and the group as a whole sings many pieces of chamber music in various different styles and languages. This group will preform at commencement and winter program, with the occasional performance throughout the year.
