Middle School
All Students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8th receives mandatory formal instructions in music for one trimester per year, as part of the fine arts rotation along with speech/drama and art. All students grades 5 and 6 meet for one trimester, four days per week for 40 minutes per class. All students grades 7 and 8 meet for one trimester, three days per week for 40 minutes per class. Grades 5 and 6 take the courses Baroque Music, and Classical music on a two year rotation. Grades 7 and 8 take the course Impressionist/romantic music and Contemporary music on a two year rotation.
Extra curricular
Students may choose to belong to one of the two preforming ensembles.
Choir meets for 40 minutes, one per week during school and had additional rehearsals monthly during activity periods as scheduled by division head.
Choir Chimes meets once per week for 40 minutes and during this time students rehearse pieces of music on the choir chimes as an ensemble, playing both the harmony and the melody. This is a strictly instrumental ensemble. There is no grade for either of the electives, and the group preform throughout the year.
