Dear Families,

Let’s work together in a “Tree”mendous way to encourage first graders to read throughout the school year.  Every time your child reads and discusses a book, he/she can fill out an apple form that is attached to this note and put it up on our class tree.  Students read every night for 10 to 20 minutes as a part of their homework.  So the cut out apples coming back to school will also be a part of their homework.  Please do not limit the books you read together as only books sent home from reading groups.  Any book that is read at home can go up on our tree.  Please put your signature on the back of the apple form after you discuss the story with your child.  In order to promote encouragement and cooperation throughout the year, the class will have an “apple party” each time the tree is filled.  They will celebrate their “Tree”mendous success while eating treats brought from home such as apples, apple muffins, taffy apples, apple cookies, etc…

Thank you for your support.

Have fun reading!

Dear Families,

First graders harvested the apples from our apple tree in the hallway and are ready to make our tree grow again!

Follow these directions before bringing in a homework apple!

Color your apple yellow if you read a homework book.

Color your apple red if you read a picture book.

Color your apple green if you read a chapter book.

Color your apple blue if you read a history or science book.

Parent’s name can be written on the back of the apple after the story is discussed.

Color and attach a worm to your apple if you wrote a book report!

Have fun!

Mrs. Sheehan
