Lower School (Grades 1-4)

In Lower School, students are challenged academically through differentiated instruction. Differentiation addresses the individual needs of students, not by creating personal lesson plans, but by adjusting the lesson to challenge each child on his or her own level. Enrichment, as well as extra support, is provided.

The Lower School offers a strong, diverse curriculum with many hands-on activities and educational field trips. Art, music, French language instruction and physical education classes, taught by specialists, enrich the curriculum.

Each child’s academic and social growth is carefully monitored, with close communication between home and school. Teachers, as well as the Division Head, are often found in the hallways before and after school greeting families, talking with parents and participating in activities. They are also readily available via phone or e-mail.

After-school clubs provide fun time with friends and important opportunities for social development. Parent involvement in classroom and after-school activities is encouraged.

The School actively utilizes the Hazelden No-Bullying Program to make students aware of the damaging effects of teasing and exclusion from play. The School is a safe, secure environment in which students can thrive.

Teachers work in an atmosphere of collaboration to ensure that students establish an excellent foundation for success in Middle School.

"As a parent, I tremendously appreciate the time and energy on the part of the faculty that becomes apparent at conference time. I cannot recall ever feeling as well connected to my childrens' classes or school experience. We are thrilled with the teachers and with their insightful, professional and genuinely helpful feedback."
