Early Childhood Education at RoycemoreRoycemore's small student/teacher ratio provides many opportunities for each child to receive individual attention from the teachers. The Early Childhood Programs promote the development of the whole child by providing a safe, nurturing environment in which each child can grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Age-appropriate academic skills and concepts are presented to children in a fun, natural, meaningful way.Children in the classroom come from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds. The school encourages understanding and acceptance of all cultures. Junior Kindergarten students must be 3 years old by September 1 and be toilet trained. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by September 1.
Taking into account a variety of learning styles, pre-reading, reading and early math skills are integrated into a number of different activities throughout the day in large and small group settings within the classroom. In addition, each child's social and emotional needs are addressed throughout the day in a variety of ways during both structured and unstructured classroom activities. In the classroom and on the playground, the children have daily opportunities for music, movement, physical activity, and art, as well as several weekly sessions with specialized teachers for music, art, physical education, and French language exposure in Kindergarten. The Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes are led by a certified Early Childhood Education teacher and are supported by one or two assistants with early childhood backgrounds, depending on enrollment. |
