Fith and sixth graders got to share the results of their research at this spring's Science Fair. The culmination of weeks of putting scientific method into practice, students prepared displays outlining their findings. Topics included what kind of hand-made device launched projectiles farthest (including a trebuchet and a ballista), what type of water helped plants grow better, what takes stains out of teeth best, and many more.

Third graders presented Lower School with a live wax museum, playing characters like Neil Armstrong, Hillary Clinton, Benjamin Franklin and Martin Luther King. Museum visitors pressed a button to hear the characters narrate a brief biography.

The Kindergarten class celebrated the 100th day of school with fun activities all week. They sorted their 100 collections,, made 100 necklaces with Cheerios, counted out treats for a 100 Day trail mix and drew a picture of what a 100 years old looks like. They also wrote about what they would do with $100 and wrote to 100 by 2s, 5s and 10s.

Lower School parents shared hot chocolate and a book with their students as part of this year's Scholastic book fair. "Chill Out and Read" invited families to share some time in the library after school.

Before Thanksgiving Break, grandparents and special friends were invited to spend the morning at Roycemore. They were treated to refreshments and a short program of music and dance before visiting the classrooms of their favorite Roycemore students. Some visitors saw class presentations while others jumped right in to help with projects.

On Friday, Upper Schoolers hosted the annual Halloween Carnival for the Lower and Middle Schools. They did a great job decorating the gym and creating fun booths and activities for the younger ones, complete with a haunted maze in the basement. Many students and staff spent the day in costume to complete the mood!

The Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes enjoyed the balmy weather after lunch last week. The Lower School playground has received some freshening up with professional landscaping, excavation of old sand and chips and a fragrant bed of new cedar chips.

Saturday, October 6th almost 70 alums and friends gathered for a catered luncheon at the school on a beautiful warm fall afternoon. Graduates ranging from the Class of 1941 to the Class of 2004 got together to reconnect, see how the school has changed and see what's remained the same. They were pleasantly surprised to discover how much they had in common with previous generations of Roycemore alums.

Roycemore students in Grades 1-4 accompanied Lower School Art Teacher Mrs. O'Donnell to the Garfield Park Conservatory to see "Niki in the Park" on September 25. The outdoor garden exhibit contains more than 30 large, colorful mosaic sculptures. The brilliantly colored sculptures by artist Niki de Saint Phalle include enormous animals, mythical figures, totems, sports heroes and Nanas – oversized, powerful women celebrating life. Lower School will have a mosaic unit in art class to follow this field trip.
