Tuition and Affordability
At Roycemore School we value each member of our community and the unique contribution each student makes to our collective excellence. We are among the most diverse independent schools in our region, and we believe racial, cultural and economic diversity enriches our school. Because Roycemore is committed to remaining accessible and affordable to families from a wide range of economic backgrounds, we use a sliding scale tuition model that applies a tuition range based on each family’s particular circumstances. In addition, we offer semi-annual and monthly payment plans for a small service charge.
Every family is expected to contribute tuition, fees and annual giving to the extent family circumstances permit. Among our families are those who can afford tuition at the top of the scale and whose generous philanthropic support provides is an essential component of annual operating expenses. There are also families who pay tuition by making a substantial sacrifice and those who are able to afford only minimal tuition. Our tuition program seeks to sustain access to our school to diverse and qualified students. Over 50% of Roycemore’s current families receive assistance in the form of tuition reduction.
Families wishing to be considered for sliding scale tuition must apply for tuition assistance during the enrollment application process. To help us objectively calculate what a family is able to contribute to educational expenses, families are asked to complete an online application through FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment. All supporting documentation can be uploaded in pdf format, faxed or mailed to FACTS, including copies of your most recent Federal tax forms.
Multiple factors are considered by FACTS when evaluating a family’s ability to pay, including but not limited to: household income, family size, the number of children attending tuition-charging schools, and assets and liabilities not reflected in household income. Not all families who qualify for a reduced rate of tuition will be offered the rate for which they qualify.
These figures are utilized as the baseline for sliding scale tuition determinations which also take into consideration the school’s policies and the resources available for returning students and applicant families.
Notification of tuition determinations will be communicated with admission acceptance letters. Although decisions about admission and sliding scale tuition are made at the same time, the two processes are separate. Returning families requesting consideration for sliding scale tuition are required to reapply annually as part of the re-enrollment process in late January of each year. All financial information provided is held in strict confidence.
